Hedgefield House has the interesting distinction of being the 1st private house in England to have a private telephone. Alexander Graham Bell was related, by marriage, to the Simpson family who built the house.

Hedgefield House is a fully access approved bed and breakfast. The breakfast hall is open Monday to Friday 07:30 to 08:30 and Saturday and Sunday 08:00 to 09:15.
